BELLE FOURCHE - Belle Fourche's volleyball team handed new head coach Loree Schlichtemeier her second win in six days over her former school, defeating Lead-Deadwood three games to one in a Black Hills Conference match on Thursday evening in the BFHS Gymnasium.

Lead-Deadwood came out fired up in the first game, claiming a 25-14 win.

"We came out really strong," said Lead-Deadwood first-year head coach Kasey Stroud. "We talked well and moved well."

Belle Fourche responded with three straight wins, 25-22, 28-26, 26-24, to close out the match.

"We knew this was going to be a big game," said coach Schlichtemeier. "They (Golddiggers) wanted to beat us bad."

The Broncs held an 18-15 lead in the final game. An ace serve by Jessica Fierro presented the visitors with a 19-18 lead. Treanna Kraft knotted the score at 24-24 and her block gave the Broncs a one-point edge. Kraft and Anna Rosencranz then teamed up on a block to secure the match triumph.

"Both teams played hard," said Schlichtemeier. "We made a couple of changes on Wednesday, switching a couple of our hitters around.

"This is the first varsity action for a lot of our girls this season. This was a huge game, a confidence builder for us. I like how we ended this week."

"We couldn't get the momentum back after the first game," said Stroud. "The girls are not aggressive when they stop talking. We have struggled finishing matches this season.

"They get down on themselves when they make mistakes. You can't do that in this game."

Belle Fourche had earlier downed Lead-Deadwood two games to one in the Philip Tournament last Saturday. The Broncs improved to 2-2 in the BHC and 5-4 overall.

Lead-Deadwood dropped to 0-4 in the conference and 1-9 overall. Belle Fourche visits Newell, while Lead-Deadwood hosts Hill City in BHC matches Tuesday.
