College basketball: Orediggers hand Mines second loss

BUTTE - Montana Tech defeated South Dakota School of Mines 75-61 in a non-conference men's college basketball game Saturday.

The Hardrockers also dropped an 87-84 game to Carroll College on Friday.

In Saturday's tilt, Montana Tech opened up a 39-23 lead at halftime and then coasted to the victory.

Shea Bradshaw scored a game-high 18 points for the Orediggers. Jeramie Hopson added 13 points and seven assists, while Jake Williams tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Dusan Veselinovic added eight points and 10 boards.

Mines was led by sophomore guard Robbie Fedor, who scored 14 points. Michael Ross and Donny DeGooyer added 10 points apiece.

The 'Rockers shot just 39.1 percent (25-for-64) from the field and also went 5-for-15 from the free-throw line. Montana Tech connected at a 44.83 percent (26-for-58) clip, including 9-of-19 from three-point range.

In Friday's game against Carroll, the Fighting Saints built a 39-32 halftime lead.

Eric Henkel led Carroll with 24 points. Chad Vaculin (18 points), Kellen Hasquet (12) and Derek Johnson (10) also reached double figures.

For Mines, Fedor dropped a career-high 26 points before fouling out. He went

9-for-13 from the field, including 6-of-8 from downtown, and 2-for-3 from the charity stripe. Brandon Smith added 12 points, Kyler Ludwig had 11 and Michael Ross notched 10 markers.

Mines was plagued by foul trouble, as DeGooyer, Scott May, and Ludwig also fouled out.

The Fighting Saints outscored the Hardrockers 27-13 at the free-throw line and also had a 35-21 rebound edge.

Mines (0-2) hosts Dakota Wesleyan on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Mount Marty on Saturday at 4 p.m.
