State college football roundup: Sioux Falls overpowers Doane

Sioux Falls held Doane College to 94 yards of total offense and Lorenzo Brown rushed for two scores as the Cougars beat the Tigers 37-7 Saturday in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Drew DeGroot recovered a fumble for a touchdown for Sioux Falls (5-0, 5-0), which held Doane to just 35 yards rushing.

Brown rushed for a team-high 68 yards and passed for 130 yards for Sioux Falls. He scored on runs of 1 and 6 yards.

The Cougars had 408 yards of offense.

Augustana 41, Minn. St., Mankato 38: Ryan Grossman's 31-yard field goal in overtime lifted Augustana College to a 41-38 win over Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Grossman tied the game at 38 with a 38-yard field goal with 7:35 left in regulation.

Joe Clark ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings (4-2, 4-1). He scored on runs of 3, 46 and 24 yards.

Jason Donnelly returned an interception 22 yards for a score, helping Augustana go up 35-14 late in the first half.

Ryan Fick was 18-for-29 for 208 yards and three touchdowns for the Mavericks (4-2, 4-1).

Cal Poly 49, South Dakota 22: Jonathan Dally threw three touchdown passes to Ramses Barden, leading Cal Poly to a 49-22 win over South Dakota in the Great West Confrerence opener for both teams on Saturday.

Dally, who was 6-for-10 for 162 yards, also ran for 66 yards and scored on a 1-yard run for the Mustangs (3-1, 1-0).

Barden finished with five catches for 158 yards. His three TD catches came in the first half, helping Cal Poly to a 28-7 halftime lead.

James Noble ran for 109 yards for Cal Poly.

Noah Shepard provided most of the offense for South Dakota (2-4, 0-1). He passed for 211 yards and rushed for 92, including touchdown runs of 1, 1 and 3 yards.

NORTHERN STATE 35, MINN.-CROOK 0: The Northern State University football team turned a pair of University of Minnesota, Crookston turnovers into touchdowns while racking up 413 yards of total offense to take an emphatic 35-0 win over the visiting Golden Eagles, capping the team's Gypsy Days celebration on a high note.

The shutout victory is NSU's first in more than 13 years, as the Wolves last recorded a shutout on Sept. 23, 1995 when they took a 13-0 win over Southwest State in Marshall, Minn.

The Wolves, who forced a trio of turnovers and held UMC to just 114 yards of total offense on the day, picked up their first win of the season and are now 1-5 overall and 1-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. UMC fell to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN 19, MIDLAND LUTHERAN 14: The Dakota Wesleyan University football team built an early lead and overcame a pair of late miscues to hold on and upset No. 19-ranked Midland Lutheran College Saturday in Fremont, Neb.

Clinging to a 19-14 lead late in the fourth quarter, the Tigers coughed up a pair of fumbles inside their own 35-yard line. However, the DWU defense held strong both times and the Tigers (3-2, 3-2) hung on to play the role of spoiler at the previously-unbeaten Warriors' (4-1, 3-1) homecoming game.
