RAPID CITY - It will be an all Eastern South Dakota Conference "AA" title game and the first since Watertown and Mitchell played each other in 1999. Watertown won that game, 48-40.
- Watertown's head coach Brian Norberg, a 1995 Arrow graduate, will be seeking his first state title while Mitchell head coach Gary Munsen will be looking for his 10th crown.
- Munsen owns the longest winning streak in Class AA boys' history as the Kernels won 40 in a row from 1983-86. Armour's Burnell Glanzer holds the state's longest boys winning streak as the Packers won 64 straight from 1978-1980. Custer's Larry Luitjens, the state's all-time wins leader ahead of Munsen, holds the Class A mark with 49 wins from 1989-91.
- The ESD has five teams playing in this year's tournament - Watertown, Mitchell, Huron, Yankton and Pierre.
- Huron is 1-1 on last second 3-point shots. The Tigers knocked out Sioux Falls Roosevelt on a last second 3-pointer on Thursday and had a chance at another game-winner three on Friday, but it came up short against Watertown as Jay Salter's half-court heave at the buzzer came up inches shy, rippling the net as the buzzer sounded.
- The 1958 undefeated Huron Tigers basketball team was honored at the halftime of the Mitchell-Lincoln game. Longtime Rapid City educator Carold Heier was the head coach for the Tigers.
- Lincoln has the quickest backcourt in the Class AA tourney as Almir Krdzalic and Anthony Muilenburg have another gear when they get in the open court. When state 400-meter champion Brett Anderson is providing muscle on the floor, you know you've got plenty of jets out there.
- Watertown senior guard Josh Hanson is going to Augustana College in the fall with hopes of playing quarterback for the Vikings.
He is going to placekick for the Vikings and he booted a 53-yarder this season for the Arrows.
- With Sioux Falls Lincoln losing to Mitchell, and Red Cloud losing to
Platte-Geddes, the only No. 1 seed left in the championship bracket is Class B Langford now 24-1 on the year.
- Yankton's Colton Iverson, a 6-foot-10 signee with the University of Minnesota, didn't get a dunk against Sturgis in their consolation game after having two in the opener against Mitchell. The Scoopers used a collapsing zone defense that put three, and sometimes four, players on the all-stater.
- Louie Krogman added 32 more points to his all-time state record 3,430 points. Krogman has one game left in his career, a title game clash with Langford.
