USD releases basketball schedule for season

The University of South Dakota men's basketball team's 2009-10 schedule will include visits by two 2008-09 NCAA tournament teams to the DakotaDome.

The two NCAA tournament qualifiers who will play at the DakotaDome include Cornell University of the Ivy League on Dec. 7 and Morehead State of the Ohio Valley Conference on Dec. 28.

Those two contests are part of a highly competitive 2009-10 schedule for the Coyotes in their second year of transition to Division I status. The schedule also includes a trip to NCAA tournament qualifier Marquette University (Wis.) of the Big East Conference, along with contests against Kansas State and Texas Tech of the Big 12 Conference, Oregon State of the Pac 10 and Wyoming of the Mountain West Conference. The schedule also includes two games at the Drake University tournament.

"We feel this is a very competitive schedule for our second year of the transition," said Boots, who will be entering his 22nd season at USD. "It should help us build in the process. We look forward to the first year of the Great West Conference. Hopefully, this nonconference schedule helps us to be competitive in that league."

USD, which finished 20-9 a year ago, will compete in the Great West Conference for the first time. The league will see seven teams competing for regular-season and conference tournament titles.
