Tennis: Raiders defeat Sturgis, Spearfish by 9-0 scores

RAPID CITY - The Rapid City Stevens boys tennis team rolled past both Spearfish and Sturgis on Tuesday winning both matches by a 9-0 score.

Against Spearfish, Billy Paluch downed Josh Knutson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Jack Hamburg returned to the line-up and downed Todd Tan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Gib Moyle downed Jordan Meyers 6-2, 6-4, J.J. Shultz beat Alex Bakuta 6-2, 6-2, Stephen Tibbles downed Alex Reid 6-4, 6-2 and Jimmy Doyle concluded the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

The Raiders were even stronger in doubles with none of the pairs dropping more than two games in a set.

Against Sturgis, both Paluch and Hamburg shutout their opponents in Luke Lynass and Zacq Israelson. Moyle dropped just one game in the convincing 6-1, 6-0 win, Shultz won at love in both sets, Tibbles downed Bennett Prosser 7-5, 6-1 and Doyle blanked Eric Teachout at No. 6 singles.

The doubles matches had the same domination by the Raiders with Paluch and Hamburg downing Lynass and Israelson 6-0, 6-1, Moyle and Shultz did not give up a game to Thomas Nettleton and Robbie Kocer and Tibbles and Doyle were winners at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-2.
