The Rushmore Thunder girls varsity team swept three games from the Watertown Lakers this past weekend.

The Thunder jumped on Watertown early on Friday with three first-period goals en route to a 9-5 victory.

Hannah Booth scored the first goal just 2 minutes, 11 seconds into the game followed by a pair of goals from Lauren Shultz. Shultz would complete the natural hat trick early in the second period to put the Thunder up 4-0 before Watertown finally got on the board.

Shelby Edwards also had a hat trick in the game for the Thunder.

Ashly Hendrickson stopped 36-of-41 shots in net for Rushmore while the Thunder put 37 shots on the Lakers' goaltender.

Saturday, the Thunder was even more potent on the offensive end scoring eight times in the first period before winning 12-8.

Shultz and Booth both had had tricks before the first period was over and Shelby Edwards had two goals of her own. Shultz finished the period with six total points.

Edwards would get her hat trick in the third period and Shultz and Booth each added one more goal.

Rushmore completed the sweep on Sunday with a 7-6 overtime win when Schultz found the back of the net 6:34 into extra time.

Shultz scored her team's two goals in the first period and finished with the hat trick while Edwards scored the next three to get a hat trick of her own. Booth put her team up 6-5 with a tally at the 11:09 mark of the third before Watertown's Aleese Byer sent the game into overtime with a goal.

Hendrickson stopped 35 shots in net for the Thunder.

Boys

RUSHMORE BOYS DROP TWO: The Rushmore boys dropped two games against Watertown on Saturday and Sunday.

Rushmore's Nahtan Peter scored the first goal of the game for the Thunder on Saturday before Watertown answered with a tally in the first and second periods to win 2-1.

On Sunday, Rushmore fell behind 1-0 before Dusty Beaird scored to tie things up before the Lakers reeled off three straight goals to win 4-1.

Patrick Novak stopped 38 shots in net for the Thunder which was outshot in both games.
