Caitlin Whiting and Brittney Piper provided the balanced attack that White River needed to down Highmore-Harrold, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, in the Class B state volleyball tournament.

Whiting led the team with 15 kills, two blocks and 18 digs. Piper added 14 kills and a solo block.

Shelby Horsley handled the setting duties with 34 set assists. Horsley also contributed 13 digs as Ashlyn Plooster had 11 for the Lady Tigers (30-4 overall).

Highmore-Harrold’s Bailey Kusser had a team-high 14 kills. Emily Jo Bronemann orchestrated the Pirate offense (24-7) with 21 set assists. Holly Hamlin paced the defense with 20 digs and Kayla Ryan made 16 digs.

WARNER 3, LEMMON 0: No. 2-seeded Warner downed Lemmon in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16, in the final game of the first round of the Class B state volleyball tournament in Watertown on Thursday.

Daryn Skjefte led the Monarchs (29-2 overall) with 10 kills as Erin Haaland and Karly Fuhrman each added six. Briana Jung handled the setting with 29 assists.

One major difference was in blocks. Warner’s defense at the net produced nine blocks while Lemmon’s Kaitlyn Van Beek made the Cowgirls’ lone block.

Lemmon’s Anne Peterson led the offense with seven kills. Chelsey Henes recorded 20 set assists, Bobbi Beer had a team-high 14 digs and Chelsea Johnson had five kills for the Cowgirls (26-8).

MT. VERNON 3, PARKER 1: Mt. Vernon needed four games to get past Parker, 23-25, 25-12, 25-10, 25-22, in the second match of the Class B state volleyball tournament in Watertown on Thursday.

Sarah Vermeulen was a force to be reckoned with at the net for Mt. Vernon (24-1 overall) as the senior hitter made 28 kills. Lexie Christensen made 26 set assists and 19 digs in the win.

Jessica Kleinsasser paced the Pheasants (25-6) with 14 kills. Shaelee Boender guided the offense with 30 set assists. Emily Hanten made 12 digs while Allison Adamson and Mollie Cole added 11 apiece.

ARLINGTON 3, ANDES CENTRAL 0: Lanny Gross made a game-high 10 kills and two blocks as top-seeded Arlington easily defeated Andes Central 25-8, 25-16, 25-18 in the opening round of the Class B state volleyball championship in Watertown on Thursday.

The Cardinals’ Allison Boeck contributed all over the floor with eight kills, digs and 13 set assists. Anne Jensen also added eight kills and four digs for Arlington (32-1 overall).

Janie Konyek led Andes Central (20-11) with eight kills. Chrissy Pavel handled the setting duties with 10 assists. Patrisse Vasek led the defense with 10 digs, while Pavel and Brieanne Johnson added seven apiece.
