RAPID CITY - The Central Baseball Association is seeking a new head coach and two more assistant coaches for the Rapid City Central Cobblers high school baseball team.

The association's board of directors decided in November not to retain Jamie Holsworth as head coach.

Association president Laurie Mills said Holsworth had indicated plans to not remain with the team after the next season when his son a senior at Rapid City Central graduates.

"It was a tough decision to make, but we decided to go ahead and seek a new head coach for the sake of longevity and continuity," Mills said. "We actually need three new coaches because we're expanding to three teams for next year."

Assistant coaches Jerry Cranford is serving as interim head coach until a replacement is named.

"He has applied to be the head coach and could be picked for that position," Mills said.

"We wanted to go ahead and see what our options were, and he's aware of that."

Another current assistant coach, Ken Wilkerson, is also remaining with the team.

A total of 48 players, ranging from seniors to eighth-graders, were picked for the Cobbler club team (formerly Rapid City East) after tryouts this fall.

Holsworth has taken a position with the State Baseball Association, which oversees club-level high school baseball in South Dakota.

The application deadline is Jan. 15. Applications may be sent to the Central Baseball Association, P.O. Box 2944, Rapid City, SD, 57709. For more information, call Mills at 341-6217.
