DICKINSON, N.D. - South Dakota Mines is the recipient of the Dakota Athletic Conference Scholars Award for the third consecutive year.
"We are proud of our student athletes and honored to receive this award for the third straight year," Hardrocker athletics director Hugh Welsh said.
The award is presented annually to the school with the highest percentage of athletes honored as DAC scholar-athletes. Fifty-three percent of Hardrocker athletes earned recognition for their academic achievements.
"It validates the type of student-athlete that our coaches have been recruiting and we are looking forward to the upcoming sports seasons," Welsh said.
In order to be honored as a DAC scholar-athlete, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better and have earned 12 or more credit hours for a semester in which he or she participates in a conference sponsored sport.
During the 2006-07 academic year, 504 athletes from conference schools earned DAC Scholar-Athlete recognition.
