SCOOBA, Miss. - Brandon Kiewel went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored, helping Rapid City Central to a 9-8 win over Columbus, Miss., Friday in a preseason tournament at East Mississippi Community College campus.

The Cobblers (2-2 overall) opened the day with a 6-4 loss to Starkville, Miss.

Ryan Palmer threw five innings against Columbus, allowing one run for the win. Kiewel threw the seventh inning for the save.

Tyler Jones helped pace Rapid City's 11-hit attack, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Adam Carroll was also 2-for-4. Damon Long was 0-for-1 with two walks and three runs scored.

Against Starkville, Jamie Lewis threw 4-2/3 innings and was saddled with the loss. Kiewel was 2-for-3 with a run, while Tommy Berg was 2-for-3 with an RBI, pacing the Cobblers' eight-hit attack. Robert Jahner scored twice and Jared Batman had a two-run single for Rapid City.

Kiewel, a senior shortstop and pitcher for the Cobblers, was offered a full-ride scholarship to East Mississippi Community College earlier in the day, according to the Rapid City Central coaching staff.

The Cobblers close their stay in Mississippi against Caledonia, Miss., today at 10 a.m.
