RAPID CITY - A four-goal barrage in the second period and five points from junior forward Josh Bingham led the Sioux Falls Flyers to a 6-0 victory over the Rushmore Thunder Sunday afternoon at the Thunder Dome.

"That is a very good team we played today," said Rushmore head coach Dick Novak of the Flyers, who are now 8-0 in South Dakota and 15-1 overall. "We ran out of gas today. We have to play both the J.V. and the varsity games and I think they got a little tired after playing five games this weekend."

The Thunder played the Flyers close in Saturday night's match-up at one point leading 2-0, (eventually dropping the game 6-3) but Sunday Rushmore couldn't find their rhythm, giving up four goals in 10 minutes in the second period.

Bingham had two early assists, the first came only four minutes into the opening period, a slap shot which Matus Vavercak rebounded and wristed a shot into the lower corner for an early 1-0 lead. The second came three minutes into the second period, a two-on-one break in which Bingham found a wide open Steve Miller who slapped it in.

"Josh is an excellent game-in, game-out player for us," said Sioux Falls head coach Wally Ahern. "He scores big goals for us and is always in the right position to set someone else up for a goal. We can always count on him to take care of business."

After the second Flyer goal of the period, which gave them a 3-0 advantage, Bingham went from provider to scorer, netting a one-timer with 6:44 remaining in the second and minutes later going coast-to-coast, juking a Thunder defender, and then beating the keeper for a shorthanded goal and putting the game away at 5-0.

"We played well today," said Ahern. "We won a lot of races to the puck and battles in the corners. Our hustle helped us come out on top, but Rapid City is getting better and better. They played well this weekend."

Bingham completed his hat trick in the third period when he took the rebound and backhanded it to the slot.

The two teams ended with 19 shots on goal apiece, but the Flyers controlled the bulk of the possession.

Vavercak ended with 4 points for Sioux Falls on three assists and a goal.

The Thunder (2-5-2 overall) are next in action when they travel to Aberdeen for a doubleheader Friday and Saturday.
