RAPID CITY - The Post 22 Split Squad pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of six Sturgis errors en route to a 10-2 win by the eight-run rule in the James "Pev" Evans Tournament at Fitzgerald Stadium Sunday afternoon.

"We hit the ball well today especially with runners in scoring position," said Split Squad coach head Pete Melendez. "That is one place we've struggled with earlier in the season. It seems like towards the end of the season we've improved in that aspect."

Split Squad starting pitcher Tom Grove was solid on the mound, throwing the complete game, while allowing only two hits. The right-hander spotted his fastball and threw a big looping curveball effectively, holding Strugis to only two runs.

Offensively, the Split Squad hit up and down the lineup with seven of the nine hitters getting at least one hit. They were led by Donte Bledsoe, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Caleb Stanley, who also had three hits for the Split Sqaud.

The game started rough for Sturgis who committed five errors in the first inning, combined with four singles by Rapid City. The first six batters of the game all scored for the Split Squad.

"We made a lot of mistakes in that first inning," said Sturgis head coach Nic Ewing.
