College basketball roundup: Hastings' 67-49 win drops Dakota Wesleyan to 9-10

The Hastings College women's basketball team defeated Dakota Wesleyan University 67-49 on Sunday at the Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Neb.

Leading the way for the Broncos was Heather McKeon with 15 points and seven rebounds. Also in double figures for Hastings was Becky Tesch with 13 points and Rachel Isherwood with 10 points.

Tesch also grabbed five rebounds while Isherwood snagged six. Sarah Mortenson led DWU (9-10 overall, 2-5 GPAC) with 12 points.

The Lady Broncos (12-4 overall and 4-4 in conference) will entertain No. 5 College of the Ozarks in a battle of top 10 teams tonight. The No. 9 Lady Broncos and No. 5 Bobcats will tip off at 7 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALLHastings ended a three-game losing streak with an upset of No. 23 Dakota Wesleyan, 93-83 at the Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Neb.

The Broncos were outstanding from the floor as they shot 52.9 percent from the field. Hastings would dominate the glass, collecting 42 rebounds including 12 offensive rebounds.

The Broncos had five players score in double figure as Waid Vontz led all scorers with 22 points while adding four rebounds and five assists.

Kyle Wamsley had the game's only double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Chase Walder led Wesleyan (14-5 overall, 5-2 GPAC) with 20 points.

Derek Fletcher added 17 points for the Broncos, who are 9-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Hastings will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on another top 25 team as they face No. 20 Morningside College on Saturday with tip off set for 4 p.m.
