RAPID CITY - The South Dakota Army National Guard Biathlon Team will host a summer biathlon (run and shoot) on West Camp Rapid at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for the Rapid City Stevens cross country team.

The public is encouraged to attend.

The purpose of the event is to introduce young athletes to the sport of biathlon, running and rifle marksmanship. The event provides local high school athletes with a training opportunity that develops skills that support the upcoming cross country season.

Each year, the SDARNG fields a winter biathlon team that competes in Minnesota, Montana, Vermont and other international locations in Europe and South America. During these winter events, biathletes compete by negotiating a 10- to 20-kilometer cross country ski course that incorporates two to four sets of targets that are engaged with a 22-caliber long rifle.

Junior college guard from Mississippi to play at USF

SIOUX FALLS - University of Sioux Falls men's basketball coach Chris Johnson announced the signing of Luther Suggs, a 6-foot-4, 195 pound transfer guard from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

"We are really excited to add a player of Luther's caliber this late in the summer, and that would not have been possible without the recruiting efforts of assistant coach Taro Fujimoto," Johnson said.

"Luther has the ability to play multiple positions, and will add some athleticism to our wing positions. He has helped Mississippi Gulf Coast to two winning seasons and that is something we feel is very important as we add players to our program.

Suggs, a native of Griffin, Ga., averaged 15 points and pulled down five rebounds per game this past season for the Bulldogs, who finished with a 17-12 record and a second-place finish at the Region 23 tournament. For his efforts, Suggs was named to the first team all-conference and region teams.
