Black Hills State won the second half and more importantly the game despite Johnson and Wales great effort in the first 20 minutes as the Yellow Jackets prevailed

83-62 in the Perkins Classic in Spearfish on Tuesday night.

BHSU trailed 35-33 at the intermission before outscoring the Denver based school 50-27 in the second half.

Black Hills improved to

12-1 on the season with its 10th win in a row as Cain Atkinson led four Yellow Jackets in double figures. Atkinson netted 20 with Clay Pottorff adding 19, Luke Enos 14 and A.J. Fodness 12 for the winners.

BHSU shot 56.1 from the field, while Johnson and Wales shot 40.7 percent.

Black Hills State will play in the MSU Northern Classic in Havre, Mont. on Friday and Saturday as they will play Montana Tech and MSU Northern.

SOUTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES 70, SHORTER COLLEGE 55: South Dakota Mines stayed hot as the Hardrockers dropped Shorter College 70-55 in Spearfish at the Perkins Classic on Tuesday night to win their 10th straight game in a row.

Robie Fedor had another solid game for the Hardrockers as he scored 19 points on four-of-six shooting from beyond the arch. Fedor also had a team-high three steals.

Mines led 43-29 at the intermission.

Carl Johnson, a junior center from Rapid City, added 10 points with A.J. Trennepohl scoring nine and Brent Cass and Kyle Turpin contributing eight each off the bench in the win.

Mines (12-3 overall) will travel to Chadron on Saturday to play the Eagles in a nonconference game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 9 Black Hills State 58, Sioux Falls 55: A three-point play by Alana Dykhouse with seven seconds remaining in overtime gave No. 9 Black Hills State University a 58-55 overtime victory over the University of Sioux Falls in the finale of the USF Holiday Inn City Centre Classic.

In an up-tempo game, both teams played strong defense, keeping each other under 40 percent shooting for the contest.

Dykhouse was fouled by Dominique Schuler on her lay-up in the final seconds of the game. She finished the game with 12 points.
