MANDAN, N.D. - Bismarck (N.D.) High School had five wrestlers go undefeated on the first day en route to opening up the lead in the team standings at the Mandan Lions Tournament on Friday.

The Demons have 102-1/2 team points. Sturgis is in second with 81 points, Grand Forks (N.D.) Red River is third at 67, and Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens are tied for fourth at 65.

Five Scoopers posted perfect records during Day 1 action. Seth Lange is 3-0 in the 119-pound weight class, as is Josh Keszler at 125 pounds. Rex Lyon is 3-0 so far in the 135-pound class, Sheldon Larson is 3-0 at 140 pounds, and 215-pound wrestler Jake Stygles is also 3-0.

The Raiders also had five grapplers go undefeated on the first day. Morgan Russell, a 112-pounder, is 3-0. Kris Klapprodt, 135 pounds, and Kramer Johnson, 140 pounds, are each 2-0, while Jarrett Jensen (145 pounds) and Justin Zaiser (171) are each 3-0.

The Cobblers had a pair of wrestlers go undefeated in the heavier classes. Chapman Ham is 3-0 at 215 pounds, while heavyweight Chris Alexander is 2-0.

Sturgis and Stevens have a couple potential championship match-ups.

Stevens' Klapprodt is in Pool A, while Sturgis' Lyon is in Pool B at 135 pounds, so the two could meet in the finals. In another possible Scooper-Raider showdown, Sturgis' Larson (Pool A) and Stevens' Johnson (Pool B) could meet up in the 140-pound title bout.

Each of Bismarck's undefeated wrestlers went 3-0 Friday. They include Joe Schumacher (112 pounds), Trevor Johnson (130), Joe Latham (152), Tyler Johnson (160) and Jesse Finneman (171).

The two-day tournament, which features 10 teams, wraps up today.
