DEADWOOD - Action heated up in the Days of '76 Rodeo on Friday as new leaders emerged in the bareback and bull riding events.
Chris Harris, of Itasca, Texas, scored an 86 on his ride to wrest the bareback lead from Thursday's leader, John Addison, who marked an 85.
Scott Montague, of Rapid City, slipped to a fifth-place tie with Dustin Reeves as they both have 81s.
Nick Price, of Russellville, Ark., racked up an 88 on his eight-second ride to open up a six-point lead over Colin McTaggart in the bull riding event.
Chet Johnson, of Gillette, Wyo., and Chad Ferley, of Oelrichs, managed to stay atop the leaderboard in the saddle bronc competition.
The pair of cowboys scored 84s on Thursday and had them hold up after Friday's performances.
Lisa Lockhart and Sherry Cervi remained on top of the standings in the barrel racing as Lockhart leads Cervi 16.74-16.95.
Doug Pharr, of Victoria, Texas, still leads the tie-down roping with a time of 8.6 seconds. Cimarron Boardman is holding onto the average with an 18.5 after two rounds.
Cash Myers, of Athens, Texas, wrestled his steer to the dirt in 3.5 seconds to post the best time of the day in steer wrestling.
Myers' time was good enough to boost him atop the average as well. Myers has posted a 7.72 mark to lead Hunter Cure by .10 seconds.
In team roping, Arizona ropers Derrick Begay and Victor Aros mark of 4.3 is still the time to beat.
Trevor Brazile and Patrick Smith still hold down the average with an 11.02. J.B. Lord and Matt Zancanella are in second with a 12.42 mark.
Performances now switch to the afternoon for the final two days of the Days of '76. Action today and Sunday will get under way at
1 p.m.
