RAPID CITY - Great Falls added to its tournament leading 25 runs scored handing Post 22 a 9-5 loss in an afternoon game Saturday at Fitzgerald Stadium in the Rich Hinseth-Merle Bach Agency Tournament.

Great Falls, Mont., now 3-0 in the tournament, is in the driver seat to win the tournament title as the sole undefeated team.

"They have a good ballclub," Post 22 head coach Dave Ploof said. "They hit the ball well, and our pitchers didn't have their best stuff today. Our pitchers fell behind in the count, and that makes it a hitter's game instead of the pitcher's."

The game was a pitching dual for the first four innings, with Post 22 pitcher J.J. Johnson battling Great Falls 6-foot-4 lefty Tanner Bleslun.

Both pitchers had retired nine of 10 hitters at one point in the game, but in the fifth inning, trailing 3-1, Great Falls exploded for a five-run inning. The Montana team strung together four consecutive singles, scoring two runs, and loading the bases. Post 22 pitchers then walked in two runs and hit batter to score another. After the damage was done, Great Falls led the game, 6-3.

"A pitcher has to make the pitches. J.J. (Johnson) had thrown the ball really well his last two starts, but today he fell behind and struggled," Ploof said.

Great Falls added three more runs the following inning to increase its lead to 9-3 when Dan Olinger singled, Tanner Bleslun walked, and then Great Falls' next three hitters all hit consecutive RBI singles.

Zach Griffith, Bryce Thompson, and Olinger all had two hits for Great Falls.

Rapid City tried to mount a rally in the sixth scoring two runs after Jarret Jensen doubled in a run and Kolton Emery singled in Jensen, but a diving play in the hole by the third baseman Thompson took away a run, and ended Post 22's chance of a comeback.

Bleslun shook off a shaky couple of innings and four errors by his defense to throw a complete game for the win, scattering seven Post 22 hits.

Emery had two hits and two RBI for Post 22.

The loss dropped Post 22 to 16-12 on the season, while Great Falls improved to 22-14.

In the morning games, Watertown came back after being no-hit the previous night by beating the Post 22 Split Squad 13-2, and then Watertown pitcher Nate Vanlaecken threw the third no-hitter of the tournament against Laramie, Wyo., in a 8-0 win in five innings.
