Regional College Football: BHSU gets win for new head coach

In their second home game of the early season, Northwestern Oklahoma State struggled in a mud bowl with Black Hills State, falling 21-7. A heavy downpour was present most of the day until half, resulting in a mud pit in the middle of the field.

Black Hills State struck first with 6:25 in the first quarter as it used the entire field on a 13-play, 93-yard drive resulting in a 6-yard touchdown run by Clint Nichols

The Rangers tied the game up just before half when Nate Guillory edged in on a 1-yard run.

The Yellow Jackets came out from half and struck for the second time on a 4-yard rush as Nicholes scored his second touchdown of the afternoon. BHSU put the icing on the cake with a fourth quarter touchdown with 4:23 to go, connecting on a 32-yard pass.

CHADRON ST. 24, ADAMS ST. 21: After a playing a lackluster first half and trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Chadron State College football team scored on its first three possessions of the second half and then held on to win, 24-21, over Adams State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Eagles, now 2-1 and the winners of 28 consecutive RMAC games, seemed to be breezing to victory, particularly after Adams State missed a 28-yard field goal with 2:50 to play.

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN 38 , DAKOTA WESLEYAN 23: The Nebraska Wesleyan scored 26 fourth quarter points as senior running back Kory Kahlandt ran for three touchdowns in the final period as the Prairie Wolves overcame a four-point deficit to defeat 19th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan, 38-23, in the 2009 home opener on Saturday at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

MINNESOTA ST. 35, UNIVERSITY OF MARY 14: The first 29 minutes, 52 seconds of the game belonged to the upset-minded University of Mary Marauders. But the final eight seconds of the first half started a 28-point run by eighth-ranked Minnesota State University as the Mavericks defeated homestanding U-Mary 35-14 in Northern Sun action.

NORTHERN IOWA 66, SOUTH DAKOTA 7: Northern Iowa turned five South Dakota turnovers into 35 points to hand the Coyotes a 66-7 loss in front of 12,688 fans on Saturday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. USD fell to

1-1 on the season, while the No. 5-ranked Panthers improved to 1-1.

SIOUX FALLS 76, DANA 3: The University of Sioux Falls football team scored a school-record 76 points against Dana College in Blair, Neb. Saturday afternoon, bettering the previous mark of 72. The Cougar defense also played well, holding the Vikings (0-2) to a field goal in the 76-3 victory.

Powering the second victory of young USF season was a three touchdown performance by senior running back Ryan Lowmiller who totaled 52 rushing yards.

and his day's production came on only 12 carries. Freshman tight end Austin Vanhove (Garretson, S.D.) also had a multi-touchdown game, scoring twice on only three receptions that netted 67 yards.
