USD football pleased with spring practice

Ed Meierkort, the head football coach at the University of South Dakota, reports that after the first four practices the team is progressing and having productive practices.

After the first four practices, with the last two being in full pads, the offense is ahead of the defense.

"It is expected that the offense is ahead of the defense," said Meierkort. "The offense has 10 starters back and is led by veteran quarterback Noah Shepard."

Chris Ganious is much stronger and faster than a year ago and will be strong at the tailback position for the Coyotes in the upcoming season.

London Landry, playing at the tight end spot, has really improved and is one of Shepard's go-to-guys, along with receiver Dan Skelly.

Dustin Nowotny, a St. Thomas More graduate, has also looked very strong at the receiver spot.
