RAPID CITY - Rob Johnson recently signed a letter of intent to play basketball starting in the fall for Black Hills State University.

Johnson is a 6-foot-6 forward that has started for the past four years for Tongue River High School in Dayton, Wyo.

"We are extremely excited to have Rob join the Yellow Jacket family," said Yellow Jacket head coach Paul Sather. "He brings the combination of size and skill that could really help us at the forward position. More importantly, Rob is a tremendous student, and is the kind of human being that makes the team important"

In 2007-08, he led his team to the state semifinals, losing a heartbreaker to Sundance. As a senior, Johnson averaged 21 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks and five assists per game.

He had highs against Big Horn High School with 42 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks on Jan. 11; Big Horn High School with 29 points, 28 rebounds and five blocks on Feb. 8; Sundance High School with 34 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks on Feb. 16; and Rocky Mountain with 21 points, 23 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals and seven blocks on Feb. 2.

He was also named conference player of the year twice, all-conference for four years, all-state for three years and he was a four-time Sheridan County all-star, and Sheridan County player of the year.

Johnson has also excelled in the classroom being a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA. He is also the state president for the Wyoming chapter of Family, Career, Community Leaders of America and is currently ranked No. 1 in his class.

Johnson also was a four-year starter on the football field as a quarterback where he earned numerous awards. He was a four-year varsity starter, a three-time all-conference selection, a three-time all-state selection, the 3A Offensive Player of the Year and he was selected to the 2008 Shrine Bowl All Star Game,

Rob's parents are Mick and Dixie Johnson. His sister, Courtney, is a freshman at Black Hills State.
