MITCHELL - Only one week after Brett Abbotts set a new school record, true freshman Tyler Evenson shot a 36-hole total of 141 to set a new Dakota Wesleyan record for a 36-hole tournament as he won the Hampton Inn/ Palace City Classic men's golf tournament on Oct. 6 at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell.
Dakota Wesleyan ran away with the team title finishing with a two day total of 598 to defeat the University of Sioux Falls by 21 strokes (619).
Montana State-Billings was third with a 625. The Tigers shot a 305 on Saturday at Wild Oak, while the nearest score was a 321.
The final round was played in windy conditions Saturday. All five DWU golfers finished in the top 12 of the tournament.
Evenson, who entered the tournament as DWU's No. 5 golfer, shot a 74 on Saturday to finish 3-under par at 141. He fired a 67 on Friday at Lakeview Golf Course.
Nick Gates shot a pair of 74s to finish at 148 to place third place. Brett Abbotts had a total of 155 (78-77) to tie for seventh place, while Chris Pritcard had a 156 (74-82). Tom Hoek rounded out the DWU lineup with a 158 (78-80).
Brian Primavera from Hastings College was second place individually with a 146 (68-76). Dakota Wesleyan finished the fall season winning four of the seven tournaments that they competed in.
