SIOUX FALLS — McCook Central/Montrose took a big first-half lead and coasted to a 56-44 win over Winner Thursday at the South Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament.

McCook Central/Montrose (20-4) was led by Andy Kappenman with 14 points and Mark Huls with 11.

Huls also had nine rebounds, helping his team to a 34-16 advantage.

Winner (20-4) was led by Zach Horstman with 18 points and Skyler Kuil with 12.

MADISON 60, CROW CREEK 44: Derrick Wiebe had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Madison to a 60-44 win over Crow Creek Thursday in the first round of the South Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament.

Wiebe made 9-of-12 shots and dished out four assists for the top-seeded Bulldogs (23-1). Mitchell White chipped in 10 points for the defending state champs.

Keenan World Turner had five 3-pointers and 21 points to lead Crow Creek (16-8). He was the only Chieftains player in double figures.

#Aberdeen Roncalli 52, Elk Point/Jefferson 49: Aberdeen Roncalli scored the last eight points of the game to beat Elk Point/Jefferson 52-49 Thursday at the South Dakota boys Class AA basketball tournament.

The Cavaliers (22-2) scored on a steal and layup with 55 seconds left to take the lead and added a pair of free throws down the stretch.

Elk Point/Jefferson (18-6) missed two 3-pointers in the closing seconds.

Andrew Holmstrom had 12 points for Roncalli, which forced 20 turnovers.

Ben Staum led the Huskies with 18 points. Ethan Pace had 13 and Brock Zeller 12.
