Torrid shooting from the field lifted Valley City State to a 92-84 Dakota Athletic Conference men's basketball win over South Dakota School of Mines on Wednesday night at the Osmon Fieldhouse.
The efficient Vikings only put up 42 total attempts but canned 27 of them for a steamy 64.3 percent from the field.
Mines outscored Valley City 52-49 in the second half, but couldn't overcome the Vikings' 11-point halftime edge.
Mines shot 52.5 percent on 31-of-59 from the field. The Hardrockers suffered from foul trouble, losing Nate Jacobson, A.J. Trennepohl and Carl Johnson to personals.
Valley City capitalized on the opportunities, draining 34- of-41 from the line.
Zac Wolff led six Valley City players in double figures, scoring 18 points, including 10-of-11 from the stripe, and also grabbing eight rebounds.
Demetrius Young added 15, Mike Stowman 13, Dareon Spencer 11, with Mike York and Calvin Kraft each with 10.
Robbie Fedor pumped in 21 points to lead Mines. Scott May added 13, and Trennepohl and Brandon Smith each scored 10.
With one regular season game remaining for both teams, the Valley City State win likely sets up a return matchup between the Vikings and Hardrockers in Valley City in the first round of the DAC playoffs starting Sunday.
Valley City (13-14 overall, 7-6 DAC) hosts Black Hills State tonight. Mines (17-10, 6-7) travels to Jamestown College tonight.
