The Black Hills State men and women once again took home the team championships - in addition to the individual titles - at the Dakota Athletic Conference cross country meet Sunday at the Madison Country Club.

Rapid City senior Cody Bordewyk and Rock Springs, Wyo., junior Wendy O'Lexey captured the individual titles as the Black Hills State men won their seventh straight DAC team title and the women captured their ninth conference crown in the last 10 years.

"We ran very well, we competed well," Black Hills State head coach Scott Walkinshaw said of watching his team navigate the icy course conditions. "Running earlier this year in Billings in similar conditions really helped us. We knew what was at stake as far as qualifying for nationals and both teams ran really well."

Black Hills State scored 26 points in the men's race to better Dickinson State, which scored 42.

The Black Hills women scored 19 points to beat second-place Dakota State, which scored 54. The top 15 finishers in each race are named to the all-DAC team.

The Yellow Jacket women's team, ranked No. 9 nationally, took the top three spots with O'Lexey, Alicia Verhulst and Schelli Scheffler and the men took three of the top four spots with Bordewyk, K.C. Fiedler (second) and Mark Mazza (fourth). The No. 12-ranked BH men placed 11 runners in the top 27 while the women had 10 in the top 35.

South Dakota Mines' top female finisher was Rapid City's Brittany Hovednes, who finished 12th, and the Hardrockers' top male finisher was freshman Matt Pike in 18th place.

The Yellow Jacket teams will head to Kenosha, Wis., on Nov. 22 for the NAIA national championships. The Black Hills State women finished eighth last year while the men were the national runner-up.

The Yellow Jackets are hoping to get word on whether or not Kerry Nekuda, a two-time all-American and senior, will be able to run at nationals after being forced to sit out the conference meet with an injury.
