Mines rocks Dakota State for third win

MADISON, S.D. - Jamie Dale returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and added three more scores to lead South Dakota Mines past Dakota State, 30-18, Saturday in the Dakota Athletic Conference.

Dale, who ran for 118 yards, scored on runs of 8, 3 and 2 yards for the Hardrockers (3-1, 1-0).

Nick Russell was 9-for-11 for 138 yards.

Dakota State (2-2, 0-1) got 118 yards and a touchdown from Andrew Fatten. His 5-yard run in the first quarter gave the Trojans their only lead at 9-7.

Donald Strand completed 16-of-28 passes for 146 yards.

BLACK HILLS STATE 48, MAYVILLE ST. 2: Black Hills State rushed for 315 yards Saturday afternoon in a 48-2 win over the Mayville State University football team.

Tanner Ehrlich ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 19 BHSU to the win.

The Comets rushed for 103 yards on the day and gained 96 yards through the air. Quarterback Jake McClain completed 12-of-23 passes for 84 yards.

Defensive back Rakiem Rowland recovered a bad PAT snap and returned it more than 80 yards to give MSU its only two points of the day. Rowland later hauled in an interception and returned it 56 yards downfield before being tackled.

The Comets are currently 1-3 and will travel to Rapid City next weekend to take on South Dakota Mines.

Augustana 42, Concordia, St.P. 21: Joe Clark ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 5-yard scoring pass as Augustana College beat Concordia-St. Paul 42-21 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on Saturday.

Clark scored on runs of 8, 12 and 1 yard in the second half. His TD reception to open the second half broke a 14-14 tie.

Luke Butler was 19-for-30 for 243 yards and three scores for the Vikings (3-2, 3-1). Tyler Schulte had six catches for 108 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown.

Sioux Falls 47, Concordia (Neb.) 0: Led by another stout defensive performance - a third shutout in four games - and a career-high 395 yards passing from junior quarterback Lorenzo Brown, the No. 2-ranked University of Sioux Falls Cougars routed the Concordia University (Neb.) Bulldogs, 47-0, Saturday afternoon at Bob Young Field.

The Cougars now improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-3.

Montana St 37, So. Dakota 18: Demetrius Crawford and C.J. Palmer rushed for two touchdowns each Saturday to lead Montana State to a 37-18 win over South Dakota.

Crawford rushed for 91 yards while Palmer had three carries for 4 yards for Montana State (2-2).

Cody Kempt completed 12-of-21 passes for 157 yards and a 9-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Thomas just before halftime, but Kempt was intercepted three times.

The Bobcats' defense limited the damage of five MSU turnovers by holding the Coyotes (2-3) to 10 first downs.

Montana State built a 35-0 lead on a

7-yard touchdown run by Crawford with 14:12 remaining.

Bemidji St. 31, Northern St. 20: Eurise Watson rushed for three touchdowns and the Bemidji St. defense forced three turnovers in a 31-20 victory over Northern State on Saturday afternoon.

Watson finished with 61 yards on 14 carries and Derek Edholm threw for 264 yards on 19-of-25 passing as the Beavers improved to 2-3 and 1-3 in the NSIC.

Northern State (0-5, 0-4) quarterback Eric Ellingson threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions.

SOUTH DAKOTA ST. 50, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 48: Kyle Minett scored from a yard out as time expired, lifting South Dakota State to a 50-48 victory over Stephen F. Austin in non-conference football action Saturday night at Homer Bryce Stadium.

In the largest comeback in John Stiegelmeier's 12-year tenure as head coach, the 20th-ranked Jackrabbits rallied from 28 points down midway through the third quarter for the victory. SDSU improved to 3-2 overall, while SFA dropped to 1-3 overall.

SDSU trailed 34-6 with 9 minutes,

9 seconds left in the third quarter before scoring on four consecutive possessions.

HASTINGS 28, DAKOTA WESLEYAN 27 2OT: Hastings College's defense stuffed a 2 point conversion attempt in the second overtime to hold on for a 28-27 victory in Mitchell.

Wesleyan had just scored on their possession in the second OT and had tied the game with a PAT kick, but a Bronco penalty moved the ball to the 1 1/2 yard line, close enough for the Tigers to elect to try the two point attempt. The running play was stuffed in the backfield by Mackenzie Hemje and a host of other Bronco defenders, ending the game.
