Yellow Jacket assistant football coach moves on
SPEARFISH - Ryan Gatch, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator this past season at Black Hills State, has accepted a coaching position at Northern State University effective July 1.
Gatch will assume the duties of defensive line coach for the Wolves, a Division II team in the Northern Sun Conference. Gatch had been with the Yellow Jackets for one season and helped the defense earn the No. 1-ranking in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
"Ryan did a great job for us this past season and felt this opportunity to move into the NCAA II ranks was a professional growth opportunity that he couldn't pass on at this stage in his career. Our intent is to have a coach on board by mid-July," BHSU head coach John Scott said. "I feel we have a lot to offer here and will have a strong pool of candidates. Our criteria will be the same as finding a player. We will need an energy and effort guy who sees BHSU as a good fit and that can help continue the success we have had to this point."
Gatch also spent two seasons at Minot State and a year with Montana State University-Northern. He was a graduate assistant at Chadron State College from 2002 to 2003. Gatch played collegiate football at Dickinson State.
