When I'm out at Fitzgerald Stadium fans often come up to me and talk about former players, and teams. They like to debate with me on who was the best on this team or that team, they like to argue with each other about who is the best shortstop ever, pitcher or hitter, especially the fans that have been coming to Fitzgerald Stadium and watching Post 22 for decades.
So I thought, what would be better than to allow fans, alumni and coaches to vote for their all-time Post 22 team.
Here's how it works: email me your all-time Post 22 team, you pick eight position players, three pitchers, and a DH. In the outfield, any position will work. You can pick three centerfielders if you want. In the infield, try to pick by position, but you don't have too. A pitcher can be a reliever or a starter. The DH doesn't have to be a DH, just a great hitter who might not fit in your team.
There is only one rule: the player must have finished the program, and you should choose your team on what they did as Post 22 players, not after in college or pro baseball. Each vote counts the same, no matter who it's from. The player can be from any era.
You have two weeks to send me your all-time team, and on July 3, during the Elks Firecracker Tournament it will be unveiled in the Rapid City Journal.
If you need help with names, or can't remember a player's name, e-mail me and I'll help you out.
Most importantly, have fun with it. One of the great things about being a sports fan is they love to debate. Look forward to hearing from you. E-mail me at jakenordbye@hotmail.com.
Let your voice be heard.
