Girls basketball: Tigers win again to stay unbeaten

NEW UNDERWOOD - New Underwood got 17 points from Devin Smith and 16 from Kelsey Schwartz as the No. 6-ranked Tigers registered a hard-fought 51-45 win over the Rapid City Central JV on Monday.

"We got tested tonight," New Underwood coach Dallas Richter said. "We handled their pressure in the second half and managed the clock. Our two big girls converted inside the entire game."

Lacey Lehman scored nine points to lead Central.

New Underwood is back in action Saturday, when the Tigers host Wall in Western Great Plains Conference action.

Philip 65, Dupree 33

PHILIP - Ten players made the scoring column as Philip defeated Dupree 65-33 in girls basketball action.

The Scotties took a 23-3 lead after the first and led 32-12 at halftime. Dupree had 42 turnovers on the night compared with Philip's 24.

Marissa Mann paced the Lady Scotties with 13 points; Kenzy Pinney added 11 and Sierra Hook netted 10. Tylissa Fitch and Lindsay Mann each contributed seven.

Philip (3-5) hosts Belle Fourche on Saturday. Dupree (0-9) plays Timber Lake in the opening round of the Little Moreau Conference tournament on Thursday.

Chamberlain 39, Gregory 23

CHAMBERLAIN - Chamberlain took an early lead and never looked back as the Cubs downed Gregory 39-23 in girls basketball action.

Gregory had 30 turnovers while Chamberlain made 12. The Gorillas held a slight edge on the boards, 34-33.

Jackie Willard paced Chamberlain with nine points. Melissa Petersen led all scorers with 12 points for Gregory and led the team with 16 boards.

Chamberlain (2-9 overall) hosts Miller on Thursday. Gregory (1-9) travels to Colome for Southern Plains Conference tournament action on Thursday.

Moorcroft 54, Upton 28

UPTON, Wyo. - Rachel Helmer scored a double-double as Moorcroft defeated Upton 58-24 in girls basketball action.

Helmer scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Ashley Bietz paced the visitors with 12 points and Ashley Schuricht added 11.

MiKayla Crain led all scorers with 16 points for Upton.

Moorcroft moves to 5-4 overall.

LATE SATURDAY

Faith 62, Wakpala 50

FAITH - Brianna Lemmel scored a game-high 20 points as Faith upended Wakpala 62-50 in high school girls basketball action on Saturday.

The Longhorns took an early 21-13 lead and continued to build that lead for the win. Brittni Lemmel (15 points) and Hanna Brown (14) also scored in double figures for Faith.

Kim Cameron paced Wakpala with 13 points. Cassie LaFromboise added 12 and Robbie Three Legs netted 11.
