Girls basketball: Moler, Barden selected as All-GDC

RAPID CITY- Betsy Moler of Rapid City Central and Sturgis' Carsey Barden represent West River girls basketball teams on the 2008 Greater Dakota Conference all-conference first team.

Joining Moler and Barden as first team honorees are Ashley Eide of Class AA state champion Sioux Falls Washington, Katie Herter of Sioux Falls Lincoln and Melanie Peterson and Emily Schulte, both of Sioux Falls O'Gorman.

Second team members include senior McKenzie Marta of Spearfish, Jacqee Jasinski of Rapid City Central, Shaunteva Ashley and Courtney VandeHoef of Sioux Falls Roosevelt along with Becky Tesch and Rachel Walters of Washington.

Moler, a 5-foot-7 junior guard, and Jasinki, a 5-7 sophomore, helped Central to a 9-3 GDC mark as

league co-champions with O'Gorman and Washington. The Cobblers finished seventh at the state Class AA tournament.

Barden, a 5-11 sophomore, helped Sturgis to its first state tournament appearance since 2003.

Named to the honorable mention team were Amy Sykora and Brooke Garner of Rapid City Stevens, and Kattie Ranta of Rapid City Central.

Named GDC coach of the year was Nate Malchow of Sioux Falls Washington.
