RAPID CITY - Lane Stirling made sure a bull would be ridden Friday night at the Range Days Rodeo at the Central States Fairgrounds.

The bull rider scored an 88 to take the lead in the event as only two other cowboys managed a score.

On Thursday night, none of the entrants could ride the required eight seconds on the stock bulls to mark a score.

Jessica Painter, a former National American University standout from Buffalo, managed to circle the three barrels in 15.83 seconds to edge out Amy Ashimke who clocked a 15.90 in the barrel racing.

Buffalo's Bryce Miller moved atop the leader board in the saddle bronc competition with a mark of 86.

Jesse Kruse and Chet Thompson are tied for second with matching 83s.

Deon Dorsey matched first day leader Justin Viles' time of 8.4 seconds in the tie down roping with Tyler Fagerhaug holding down third with an 8.5 clocking.

In another tie, this time in steer wrestling, Jason Reiss and J.D. Dolezal shaved 1.6 seconds of the best time from Thursday to post identical 5.0 marks.

Shaw Loiseau and Casey Wilson roped their way to the lead in the team roping event with a 5.9 second effort.

Two other teams bested the leading 7.2 mark from Thursday's rodeo.

In all six of the seven events got new leaders as Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas still held onto his lead in the bareback event with the 86 score he marked on Thursday.

Jared Smith came within a point to take over second with his 85 ride.

There is one performance left in the Range Days Rodeo this year and it will get under way at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds tonight.
