Orion Thompson has been selected as the next head boys basketball coach for the Sturgis Scoopers pending Meade School District School Board approval. He will replace Ethan Dschaak, who resigned to become the principal at Stagebarn-Piedmont School.

He then played in several semi-professional basketball leagues around the world from 1999-2001 before coaching in Salinas, Calif., in 2001. He has worked as a graduate assistant for South Dakota State and coached at Si Tanka University. Thompson graduated with a master's degree in sports administration from SDSU.
For the past four years, Thompson was the associate head coach for the Dakota State University men's basketball team.
