RAPID CITY - Rapid City Stevens' Billy
Paluch and Jack Hamburg defeated Spearfish's pair of Josh Knutson
and Todd Tan as the Rapid City Invitational doubles tennis
tournament got underway at the Sioux Park courts.
"We played tough and got the better of
them," Paluch said of the opening win.
However later in the evening, something
rare happened: A doubles team got the better of Paluch and Hamburg
for the first time this season.
Sioux Falls O'Gorman's Brad Entwistle and Jameson Goetz defeated Paluch and Hamburg, 10-7 in the number one flight doubles.
It was only the second time that Paluch and
Hamburg had lost in their doubles careers.
"It was a close match," said Rapid City
Stevens coach Jason Olson. "They (S.F. O'Gorman) were up 9-7 when a
ball hit off the net."
"They won the key points because they return the ball so well," said Olson of the O'Gorman pair.
