Caleb Shockman scored 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and the South Dakota Mines men’s basketball team hit 56 percent of its shots from the floor to top Viterbo 78-68 on Friday night in the US Bank Thanksgiving Classic at Goodell Gymnasium.
The Hardrockers took a 38-26 lead into the halftime break after holding the visiting V-Hawks to 31 percent (9-of-29) shooting over the first 20 minutes.
Philip Schanilec and Lucas Nolan each added 11 points for the Hardrockers (3-2 overall).
Matt Turba led Viterbo, out of LaCrosse, Wis., with a game-high 17 points, Izac Sheforgen added 13 and Alex Koeller 11.
Calvin Thomas added seven points and a game-high six rebounds for Mines, which will host Dakota Wesleyan today at 7 p.m.
MONTANA TECH 85, CHADRON ST. 70: Adam Greger, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Montana Tech to an 85-70 victory over Chadron State in the first game of the Westminster College Thanksgiving Tournament.
Zac Bargen led Chadron State with 22 points and six rebounds. Both Justyn Anderson and David Downey scored 10 points for the Eagles.
