It was overly quickly at Pete Lien Memorial Field Tuesday night, as the Rapid City American Legion Post 320 Stars swept a doubleheader against Pierre Post 8 10-0 and 4-1.
The Stars used nine runs in the second inning of the first game to almost insure that the game wouldn't go seven innings. Seth Brewer, Zane Salley and Keegan Kast all had two RBI for Post 320.
Carter Stonecipher had a strong night on the mound, going the distance while giving up no runs, five hits and striking out three.
Salley and Connor Burgess also registered multiple hits for Post 320 in the first game.
The Stars held on to their 9-0 lead until the next inning, scoring another run and holding Pierre scoreless for the next two innings, ending the game after the top of the fifth.
In the second game, Post 320 didn't have as easy of a time scoring, but was still able to shut down the Pierre bats.
At first it looked like it might be a repeat of the first game, as Post 320 jumped on Pierre pitching and scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Stars added to their 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third with two more runs, and Kast was able to keep Post 8 off the scoreboard.
That changed in the top of the sixth when Pierre got on the board for the first time, but it was too little too late. Dawson Penticoff came in for the final 1 1/3 innings and shut the door, securing the sweep for the Stars.
Post 320 improves to 14-5 with the series of wins and is next in action against Douglas Thursday at home. First pitch will be at 7 p.m. and the game is nine innings.
After Douglas the Stars will head west for a Friday doubleheader against Sheridan, Wyo. with games starting at 1 and 3 p.m.
Pierre will stay in Rapid City, as it has a game against Rapid City Post 22 today at 7 p.m.
