World championship boxing is coming to Deadwood as undefeated 140-pound contender Regis Prograis and former world champion Viktor Postol will face off for the vacant WBC Super Lightweight World Championship at Deadwood Mountain Grand on March 9.

Prograis (20-0, 17 KOs), of Houston by way of New Orleans, has scored knockouts in 13 of his last 14 fights and is a rising star in the wide-open 140-pound division. The aggressive-minded southpaw will face the toughest test of his career in Postol, a former WBC Super Lightweight World Champion with only one loss on his record.

In the 12-round co-feature, undefeated 140-pound contenders Ivan Baranchyk (17-0, 10 KOs) and Anthony Yigit (21-0-1, 7 KOs) will square off in a Junior Welterweight World Title Eliminator to become the mandatory challenger for IBF champion Sergey Lipinets. Lipinets will defend his belt the following day, March 10, on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® against undefeated three-division champion Mikey Garcia.

Black Hills Rapids wins eight titles in Spearfish

The Black Hills Rapids soccer teams had a big weekend, winning eight titles at the Northern Concrete Winter Classic in Spearfish.

The Rapids also had four finalists and placed in 11 of the 13 brackets.

Winning tiles were: U12 Boys Silver Division BHR 06 Boys Onyx, U12 Boys Gold Division BHR 06 Boys White, U14 Boys Gold Division BHR 04B Burgundy 1, U16 Boys Silver Division BHR 04B Burgundy 2, U16 Boys Gold Division BHR 02/03B Burgundy 1, U19 Boys Gold Division BHR 00B Burgundy 1, U12 Girls Silver Division BHR 07G White and U14 Girls Division BHR 04G.

Other finalists were: U10 Girls Division BHR 08G Team 2, U12 Girls Gold Division BHR 06G Burgundy, U14 Girls Division BHR 04 and U16 Girls Division BHR 02G.

Eagle Cliff Ski Association to host event Saturday

Members of the Eagle Cliff Ski Association are hosting a Beginners’ Cross Country Ski Lessons and Bratwurst Feed” Saturday on the Eagle Cliff Trails from 10 a.m. to noon.

 Registration will be at the Bratwurst Trailhead parking lot on Hwy 85, seven miles west of the Spearfish Canyon junction Hwy 14A/Hwy 85. Shuttles will be available from the Bratwurst parking lot to the Sunny Meadow Trailhead where lessons will be conducted on the groomed beginners’ loop and back following the lessons. The Bratwurst Fest will begin at noon.
