The Rapid City Stevens wrestling team had the superior depth in capturing the Yankton Invitational on Saturday.
The Raiders had just two overall champions, but scored 222.5 points to edge Pierre, which finished with 213.5 points. Mitchell was a distant third with 126.5 points. Douglas was 13th in the 17-team field with 56 points.
Stevens sent seven wrestlers to the finals and came away with five runners-up.
At 106, it was an all-Stevens final as twin brothers Darien Malone and Declan Malone battled. Darien came away with a 11-3 victory.
Also winning for the Raiders was Dante Colicheski, who pinned Tyler Zavel of Lennox in 5 minutes, 12 seconds at 182 pounds.
Also placing second for the Raiders were Cody Stockman at 113, Logan Fischer at 120, Cody BeVier at 126 and Nate Allen at 152.
Stevens returns to action Thursday at Rapid City Central and Douglas is at the Black Hills Conference Tournament Saturday in Hot Springs.
Philip wins Black Hills Classic
Philip crowned five individual champions in capturing the team title Saturday at the Black Hills Classic in Hill City.
The Scotties finished with 192.5 points to edge Rapid City Central, which sent a partial varsity squad, as the Cobblers scored 187 points. Custer was third in the 17-team field with 169 points, followed by Lead-Deadwood at 142 and the Rapid City Stevens JV squad at 108.5.
Earning individual titles for the Scotties were McCoy Peterson (120 pounds), Jadyn Coller (126), Colby Fitch at 145, Cody Donnelly at 160 and Jory Rodgers at 220.
The Cobblers had two champions, Cael Larson (106) and Bridger Kraye (182), as did Lemmon with Kaleb Bucks (170) and Braydon Peterson (285). Newcastle, Wyo., also crowned a pair of champions with Wyatt Corley (152) and Teigan Marchant (195).
Also winning titles were Preston Seamands of Wright (113), Brett Konst of Sturgis (132) and Chance Grill of Custer (138).
Many of the area Class A teams return to action next Saturday at the Black Hills Conference Tournament in Hot Springs.
STURGIS 45, HURON 30: The Scoopers pulled away in the fourth quarter Saturday in Sturgis.
Brooke Janz paced Sturgis with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Olivia Jolly added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sturgis grabbed 53 rebounds as a team.
Haven Heinz led Huron, 0-16, with13 points.
The Scoopers will be at Stevens Tuesday night.
RED CLOUD 50, Mt. VERNON-PLANKINTON 44: The Lady Crusaders rallied in the second half for the win at the Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls.
Red Cloud trailed 22-21 at halftime.
Emonee Pourier led Red Cloud with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Mya Franks added 11 points. Aaliyak Provost finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
Katlyn Briggs led all scorers for Mt. Vernon-Plankinton with 27 points.
Red Cloud, 12-4, hosts Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Monday.
LYMAN 39, NEW UNDERWOOD 30: Behind big nights from Kacie Wagner and Kayt Garnos, the Raiders jumped out to an early lead and pulled away from New Underwood.
Wagner and Garnos had 16 points while Jaedyn Finkbeiner also had 16 for the Tigers.
Lyman, 12-5, travels to face Kimball/White Lake Tuesday while New Underwood, 13-3, travels to face Kadoka Area Monday.
MITCHELL 59, SPEARFISH 45: The Kernels held the Spartans to under 30 percent shooting in the win Saturday in Spearfish.
Tayler Factor led Mitchell, 6-8, with 16 points and Mackenzie Miller scored 13 for the Kernels.
Alexisis Kemp led the Spartans, 6-9, with 15 points and Brook Heariet added 12 points.
Spearfish is at Custer on Thursday.
WINNER 65, CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE 41: The Lady Warriors pulled away in the second half for the lop-sided victory.
Morgan Hammerbeck led Winner with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Gabriel Kocer scored 14 points and bragged 10 boards.
Chantelle Sheppard Foster scored 11 points for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte.
HURON 49, STURGIS 39: Behind a decided rebounding edge, the Tigers upset Sturgis in Huron.
The Tigers out rebounded the Scoopers 44-21, including 10 from Teegan Evers. Huron was led in scoring by Tanner Evers who had 15 and Kobe Busch who had 13. Dawson Geuke paced Sturgis with 13 points.
Sturgis, 11-4, hosts Hot Springs Friday while Huron, 7-9, travels to Pierre Tuesday.
SISSETON 51, ST. THOMAS MORE 38: The Redmen led the entire way in stopping the Cavaliers in the Pentagon Classic Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Dion Iyarpeya led the Redmen, 10-5, with 14 points and Benji Thompson added 11 points.
Kale Landguth led St. thomas More with 12 points. The Cavs shot just 29 percent from the field (14-of-47).
St. Thomas More, 7-8, is at Red Cloud Tuesday.
LEMARS, IOWA 66, RED CLOUD 56: The Crusaders saw their 11-game win streak snapped in the Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls.
Alex Irwin hit five 3-pointers and led LeMars with 23 points, followed by Gabe Eckstaine finished with 14 and JT Engebertson added 11.
Alejandro Rama led Red Cloud with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Louie Her Many Horses finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Red Cloud, 13-2, hosts St. Thomas More Tuesday.
TODD COUNTY 72, MOBRIDGE-POLLOCK 67: The Falcons got 31 points from Aiden Bizardie and held on to beat the Tigers Saturday in Mission.
David Espinoza also scored 16 points for the Falcons, who moved to 6-10 with the win. No results were available for Mobridge-Pollock, 4-11.
Todd County, 6-10, is at Platte-Geddes Tuesday.
CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE 66, WINNER 62: The Braves rallied in the fourth period to stop the Warriors.
Dayson Kohlus led all scorers for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte with 26 points, while Naden Jaquin added 11.
Brandon Volmer led Winner with 20 points and Brady Fritz finished with 10 points.
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, 5-10, is at Little Wound Wednesday and Winner, 4-11, is St. Francis Indian Tuesday.
MOORCROFT, WYO. 60, EDGEMONT 47: The Wolves outscored the Moguls 29-15 in the second half for the win in Moorcroft.
Clay Stripp led Moorcroft with 17 points, followed by Caleb Connally with 16 and Kaiden Blakeman with 10.
Caleb Simons paced the Edgemont with 25 points and 10 rebounds and Kaleb Darrow added 14 points.
Edgemont, 4-11, hosts Hulett, Wyoming, Thursday.
LYMAN 84, NEW UNDERWOOD 54: The Raiders scored 53 points in the first half in running past the Tigers.
Baptise Pourier led Lyman with 23 points. while Tate Wagner added 21. Ty Schindler also scored 15 points for the Raiders.
Trent Lopez led New Underwood with 21 points and Conner Knuppe added 17.
Lyman, 6-9, is at Kimball/White Lake Tuesday, with New Underwood, 1-13, hosting Kadoka Area Tuesday.
Raiders qualify for state meet
The Rapid City Stevens gymnastics team earned a berth at next week's state meet by placing second Friday in the East-West State Qualifier in Sioux Falls.
The Raiders finished with 131.025 points, behind winner Sioux Falls O'Gorman with 137.050. Sioux Falls Lincoln also qualified as a team with 129.500 points.
Individually, Danielle Schmidt led the Raiders with a second-place finish in the all-around (33.750), as well as a second-place on the bars (8.475) and third place on the vault (8.650).
Also for Stevens, Cayla Klapperich was second on the bars (8.850) and Emirra Returns was fifth on the bars (8.275).
The top five individuals also qualified for the state meet, which is Friday (team) and Saturday (individual) in Watertown.
