Daniel Leavens struck twice against his former team, but the effort came up short as the Rapid City Rush lost to the Allen Americans 5-2 Friday.
Allen got the scoring started with 5:54 gone by in the contest when Connor Reilly fired a shot from the slot that bounced over Rush net-minder Adam Vay and in. Miles Liberati was credited with the assist.
Towards the end of the period, Leavens scored his first goal on an assist from Jack Walker with 1:01 left in the period, and the first ended in a 1-1 tie.
Allen didn't waste any time answering, as Spencer Asuchak gave the Americans the lead just seven seconds into the period. He was helped by Zach Pochiro and Alex Guptill.
Eric Roy increased the Allen lead with a goal 6:28 into the period on assists from Guptill and Josh Thrower.
That was it for Rapid City starting goaltender Adam Vay, as Christian Frey was brought in to replace him.
Leavens scored again during a five-on-three power play. With 5:13 left in the second, Leavens scored on a rebound with assists from Peter Sivak and Shaquille Merasty. The period ended with the Allen leading 3-2.
Allen re-established their two-goal lead moments into the third period to eventually pull away with the win. With 14:54 left in the game, Mathieu Aubin scored on an assist from Reilly assisted. Guptill sealed the win with an empty-net goal with less than two minutes remaining.
Rapid City falls to 20-33-2-1 with 43 points while Allen improves to 26-24-4-2 with 58 points. The two teams play today at 6:05 p.m. in Texas.
