Dante Salituro scored twice, including the game-winning power-play goal with 3:11 remaining in the game, and Peter Sivak added a pair of goals as the Rapid City Rush defeated the Allen Americans 5-3 on Wednesday night at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.
The Rush and Americans traded goals under a minute apart in the last five minutes of the first period for a 1-1 deadlock. With 3:43 left in the first, Salituro struck first for the Rush after he took his own the rebound and got the puck past Allen goaltender Stephon Williams.
Allen countered 42 seconds later when Colby McAuley took the rebound from Zach Pochiro's shot and got it past Rush goaltender Adam Vay to tie the game at 1-1 with 3:01 remaining in the first period.
Alex Schoenborn gave Allen the lead at the start of the second, finding a loose puck for the goal, opnly to see the Rush tie it up again as Sivak scored off of pass from Daniel Leavens from behind the net.
McAuley struck for his second of the contest to help the Americans to a 3-2 lead after two periods.
The Rush bounced back and tied the game at 3-3 early in the third when Chase Lang found Riley Weselowski, whose shot got past Williams.
With 3:11 left in the game, the Rush would finally break the deadlock, and did so on their only power play of the game. Salituro took an Ian Brady pass and his shot deflected off an Americans defender and past Williams to give the Rush the lead at 4-3 (Brady and Sivak assisted).
Sivak, the reigning ECHL Player of the Week, gave the Rush some breathing room with an empty-net goal from his own faceoff circle the full length of the ice to seal the win (Vay got the only assist, his first point of his career).
Vay, the reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week, stopped 34 of 37 shots on goal (8-8-1).
The Rush, 14-24-2-0, continue their long road trip because of the annual Black Hills Stock Show with a matchup against the Kansas City Mavericks for the first time in two seasons Friday, beginning at 6:05 p.m.
