The Sturgis girls’ basketball team earned its first victory of the season with a 61-34 victory over Spearfish on Tuesday evening.

The Scoopers got out to a quick start and took a 15-8 lead into the second quarter. They wouldn’t let up in the second as they outscored the Spartans 18-6 and took a 33-14 advantage into the half.

Spearfish battled in the third, but Sturgis put game away with a 16-7 fourth.

The Scoopers had three double figure scorers, starting with Brook Janz, who finished with 19 points.

Olivia Jolley chipped in with 15 points and pulled in nine rebounds, while Loalee Stock added 11 points.

Madison Gould led the way for the Spartans with 12 points.

Sturgis (1-3) will host Douglas on Thursday, while Spearfish (0-3) is at Rapid City Stevens.

JONES COUNTY 55, STANLEY COUNTY 18: Jones County picked up its first win of the season as it cruised past Stanley County on Tuesday.

Jones County (1-2) will play Burke/South Central Dec. 28, while Stanley County (0-3) takes on Highmore-Harrold on Thursday.

WALL 54, NEWELL 34: Wall earned its third straight victory with a win over Newell on Tuesday night.

No other information was made available for this game.

Wall (4-1) will host Rapid City Christian Jan. 4, while Newell (0-5) hosts Dupree on Thursday.

STURGIS 57, SPEARFISH 37: Sturgis outscored Spearfish 21-8 in the first quarter and cruised to a win over the Spartans on Tuesday.

Connor Crane led the Scoopers with 19 points and seven boards, while Ryan Garland chipped in with 13 points.

Brady Greger paced Spearfish with eight points and eight rebounds, and Dawson Sundsted added seven points.

Sturgis (3-1) will host St. Thomas More on Friday, while Spearfish (0-3) is at Rapid City Stevens on Thursday.

STANLEY COUNTY 71, JONES COUNTY 71: Stanley County remained unbeaten to start the season with a win over Jones County.
