STURGIS—Tim Bauer bought one raffle ticket for the 2011 Dirico Pro-Street V-Twin motorcycle being given away by the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce Charitable Foundation.

He and his family had just returned to Max, N.D., from the Sturgis motorcycle rally with his fiancee and two teenage boys when the call came that he had won the bike.

“My fiancee and I were just walking around and we stopped and looked at the Dirico bikes,” Bauer said.

He bought one ticket and was happy just to have donated to the foundation.  Dirico Pro-Street  motorcycles sell in the $40,000 range.

“There’s no way I thought this would happen,” he said.

Bauer currently rides a 2003 Harley-Davidson Super Glide.

“I’m going to give the ’03 to my fiancee so we can ride together,” Bauer said.

Proceeds from raffle ticket sales stay in the community, according to Marcia Johnston.

“We hope to continue to get bike builders involved,” Johnston said.

One way to do that is to show off bikes from previous raffles.

“We’ll bring her back down next year,” Bauer said of his new bike. “We enjoy riding in the Hills. I got hooked on Sturgis and the Black Hills quite a few years ago. I love to put the miles on.”
