Dear Editor,

The upcoming special election will likely be one of the most important elections in the history of Chadron. The voters will be asked to determine whether or not our Mayor and Vice-Mayor should be recalled. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unanswered questions that are still looming prior to the election.

Will the voters choose to retain the Mayor and Vice-Mayor, or will they choose to vote them out of office in hopes of finding someone better? If the Mayor and/or Vice Mayor are recalled, who will the remaining council members replace them with? Will they replace them with someone who truly wants to what is right for the community?

Take a close look at what the Mayor and Vice-Mayor have done since they have been in office. Look at each of their records, and the facts will show they have had the best interest of this community in mind the vast majority of the time. Not everyone will agree with everything they have done or said, but that is alright. As the representatives of the community they only have to do what the majority of the citizens want the majority of the time, and they have done that. I seriously doubt whether anyone could do a better job considering the amount of intimidation, harassment, bullying, and badgering they have had to withstand for the last several months.

Look at the future of Chadron, and the consequences of recalling the Mayor and Vice-Mayor. Not only would we be trying to fill vacant spots on the Council, but then what will happen next? Will we be looking for another City Manager in the near future? Will we be looking for another chief of Police? Who else will need to be replaced?

If one or both are recalled, who ion their right mind would want to fill a vacancy on the Chadron City Council considering what these Councilmen have had to endure? Will all the problems of Chadron be automatically resolved by replacing either of these Councilmen? Will any of the problems facing Chadron be resolved?

There has bee a lot of misinformation being spread in this community by a handful of disgruntled individuals. Before going to the polls, the voters of this community need to be informed and look at the facts.

Regardless of the outcome I would encourage all registered voters of Chadron to get out and vote on October 4th. It doesn’t matter whether you are for or against the recall effort, just vote. There is a lot at stake for our community in this election.
