I have read all the responses to date and would like to add my two cents. There are many who post here who understand what the "Occupy Wallstreet" protests are about. The shift of wealth and power from the general public, the 99%, to the small percerntage of public, the 1%. This gradual shift has taken 30 years to occur but it has finally reached its pinnacle. When 40% of any nations wealth is concentrated in such a small group of citizentry there will be a problem. This is not a percieved problem, this is a real problem.

Too bad Mr. Thomas forgot to list the Bush presidency as another reason why we are in this mess. Republican ideology gave us no additional taxes during war, Medicare part d (unfunded), a real gift to big pharma. Tax breaks for all when demand on the treasury was accelerated and a total breakdown of our infrastructure. Damaged levies in New Orleans and broken roadways all over this country created a big hurt both fiscally and mentally for the American people. There is a school of thought that had there been funding to fix damaged and worn down infrastructure we could have weathered the economic downturn much better.
People easily forget that over 50% of the current federal deficit is based on this past Republican ideology. Like Obama or not he atleast had the guts to put the wars on the books where all could see the real cost.
Now that we are here what do we do. Tell our creditors to lump it as many in the TEA Party would suggest? While I would suggest that S&P are wrong to downgrade our countries credit rating I understand their underlying reasoning. Political action positioning Republican TEA Party members against everyone else has been singled out as the cause. Democrats came forward with cuts and support responsible adjustments to the budget. All they asked in return was that those who had profited most from the past 10 year tax codes help restore this country. None of us are chidren, we understand that there is a time to pay for all our actions.
I respectfully ask all who are on the right...."Where are the jobs!". This is what was shouted by the republican candidates elected in 2010. With over 1 trillion dollars in the bank it is time for corporate America to come home and start contributing to our economy, not Chinas'

extremely sad to read this story but very disconcerning that the NY troopers would state that the rider would have survived had he been wearing a helmet. This kind of propaganda is just not verifiable and should not have been included in the article in its current form. There are pros and cons to the wearing of helmets and it should be up to the rider to decide. My thoughts go out to the family of the rider.

Hey Joseph, where are you getting your 98% figure. It is the middle class in Wisconsin who are performing recalls on Republican state senators. It is the middle class who elected a democrat in NY 26, where a republican has held the seat for over 100 years. No Joseph you are wrong. Republicans are out of step with real citizens of this country. Only Grover Norquist is happy about what Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor are doing. The Republicans will continue to put forth their agenda of making this great nation look like something out of a Dickens novel. And folks like you will continue to lap it up. Please sir may I have another?

Way to go Hodgie! There are lots of Boston fans here in Rapid, some transplants(like my wife and I) and some with just some good hockey sense. Seeing the B'S take the cup brought a tear to my eye and put a smile on my face. They were the best overall TEAM playing this year. 39 years is a long time to wait for a championship but they finally brought the cup home. When you get home let every one know that the Bruins have fans here in Rapid City and we love them. Have a Kellys Roast Beef for me.

I am tired of talkers and potential candidates criticizing any incumbent without speaking directly to whe issue at hand. Mr. Romney stated that President Obama was caught flat footed at the arrival of an Arab Spring. The political upheaval which is forcing change in many more moderate Arab countries and opening the door for stable governments in that region.
Well Mr. Romney, Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. Hannity...what would you do? Just tell me that. It seems that when the option of bombing a region is set aside the Republican speak turns to vague comment, ripe with open ended thoughts which allow the reader to fill in the blanks.
Without criticizing the President republican talkers and readers, tell us what you would suggest. Remember...you may be setting the agenda!

Ok all you republican, personal responsibility types...lets see some positive responses to this story. The people who are involved in the decisions which could potentially kill the trusting citizens of this country are being taken to task.
No corporation pays out 313million in fines with Board of Directors or CEO knowledge. No drig is put into development or testing without the big guys approving it. That is just fact. Hundreds of millions of dollars may ride on the results of these trials. That sounds like decisions from the top kind of stuff to me.
Come on TEApubs, speak up. Or did your corporate masters grab hold of your tongue?

Sen. Thune calls the Ryan plan courageous. Hyperbole much Senator? The Ryan plan would continue the Republican policy of "paying" off the national debt on the backs of those who have the least. Changing Medicare/Medicaid to a voucher system for those who turn 55 at the time of passage would send our spending on medical care for seniors even more out of control than it is interpreted to be now.
Ask yourself if you could afford $1000 per month for decent health insurance for yourself and your spouse after you retire. That could very well be the cost out of pocket after your government voucher.
When people cant afford insurance they go to the local emergency room for care and when they cant pay it is the tax payer who does. How did we lower the national cost of health care. We havent, all we have done is given another handout to insurance companies. One of the largest insurance companies in the US recently disclosed that they only spend 60% of premiums received on actual health care, leaving 40% (profit) for them to us as they please. One wonders how much of that goes towards lobbying efforts?
Who do you work for Senator and when will you show some backbone and pay for your own health insurance provided by the American People? Now that would be courageous

Hey Gov...dont you know that you are adding to the deficit, taking aid from the feds and disappointing your TEAparty supporters.
Oh, I forgot that it is ok to ask for money then denounce the feds later!

The Northern Hills Ranger District recently signed a participating agreement with Lawrence County to reduce the mountain pine beetle epidemic in the Northern Hills.
