Woodson is the founder and president of the Woodson Center, which was established in 1981 to help residents of low-income neighborhoods address the problems of their communities. Over the years, the Woodson Center has empowered resident management of public housing, given low-income neighborhood leaders a voice in public policy, helped create partnerships in the revitalization of urban neighborhoods, and developed a unique initiative that is effectively reducingyouth violence in schools and communities throughout the nation. While he was stationed in the deep south during his time in the Air Force in the 1950’s, he confronted discrimination firsthand. He then became a Civil Rights Activist, met Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and was jailed for leading a very peaceful protest.
