The Crawford Cattle Call will celebrate its fifth anniversary in downtown Crawford this year.
The event is scheduled for Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and welcomes a new feature this year – a photo contest centered on the theme “A Day in the Life of Ag.” Photos must be brought to the Crawford Eagles Club the day of the event between 9-10 a.m. as a matted, 8x10 print. Entries need to be marked on the back with the participants name and age division (12 and under, 13-18, 18+). There is a limit of three photos per person.
As always the Crawford Cattle Call will showcase a wide variety of livestock. Cattle breeders have been invited to enter the bred heifer, heifer calf and bull calf pen shows in the search for prize money, and other pens could include everything from sheep and goats to horses and cattle.
Pen show fees are $150 until Oct. 25 and then increase to $175, and no entries will be accepted after Nov. 1. Other livestock display entries are $100 per pen without a pen show entry or $50 per pen with another pen show entry.
A range of agricultural, food and commercial vendors are always on display, as well. Vendor fees are $100 for ag-based businesses and $30 for food and commercial vendors. Non-profit organizations are welcome at no charge. All vendor spaces must be booked by Nov. 1.
While the Cattle Call itself starts later in the morning, the “Running with the Herd, Get on the Moooove!” 5K Walk and Run will offer something for those early risers. Pre-registration for the 5K runs through Oct. 28, and race day registration will be available at D and S Market from 8-8:30 a.m. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., with awards for each division. Pre-registration forms are available now on the Crawford Chamber of Commerce website.
There will also be a hay bale decorating contest. One large round bale will be provided to each participant/group, and entries will be judged on eye appeal, construction, use of materials and creativity. Teams will be able to start decorating Nov. 2 but must be finished by 10 a.m. Nov. 3. Entry forms are due by Nov. 1 and are available on the Crawford Chamber of Commerce website.
