ALLIANCE – With a goal of $90,000 United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte & Dawes Counties has passed the 90% point and is entering the final stretch of its annual fundraising campaign, and is asking for help to reach its goal. The annual campaign ends mid-February, just a short time away.
Throughout the pandemic, United Way has expanded its efforts in the community with a strong focus on serving families and youth particularly those that are food insecure. United Way relies on donations to provide grants to local nonprofit partners and continue community impact work.
United Way currently supports ten nonprofit agencies in Box Butte County and three nonprofit agencies in Dawes County and fills gaps through local community impact work, including coordinating and distributing the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, Stuff the Bus school supply drive, Imagination Library and the Community Cares food distribution that is held the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month in the St. John’s parking lot. The annual United Way funding process is currently open to nonprofits in the community with more information in the United Way website at www.uwwn.org. Funds granted to local nonprofits is based on the current United Way fundraising campaign.
Donations can be made with a check mailed to United Way, P.O. Box 617 Alliance, NE 69301, through the local United Way website at uwwn.org or by contacting the United Way office at email@example.com or by calling (308) 763-8031. 98% of funds raised in the campaign stay local, helping hundreds each year, most of whom are children. United Way works hard to ensure that donations from the Box Butte County community assist Box Butte County programs and Dawes County donations impact Dawes County programs.
United Way also announced that grant applications are currently being accepted from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving the two counties for 2021-2022 funding. Applications are available online at www.uwwn.org/grant. United Way work focuses on identifying the issues impacting the community in the areas of health, education, and financial stability. Services provided by the organizations must promote healthier lives, better education or financial stability, provide for and contribute primarily to human care and health needs operating and serving individuals in health, welfare, recreation, youth-guidance and/or character-building field.
Funds for the United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte and Dawes Counties grants are all raised in the local community during the annual United Way fundraising campaign and through United Way special events. Each agency that applies and meets the funding criteria will be interviewed by a group of United Way volunteers that determine funding levels for each agency. Dawes County interviews for funding will be held on Friday, April 16 in Chadron.
