What better way to celebrate Earth Day but to go get your hands a little dirty! Bring your family or friends and help build a school garden at Chadron Intermediate School April 21 from 1-4 p.m. There will be projects for all ages and skill levels! Community-wide Clean-up

It’s Great American Clean Up time! Keep Chadron Beautiful is hosting the annual Community Clean Up April 21. This year’s theme is Clean Your Block. Volunteers can register online at keepchadronbeautiful.org and complete your cleanup at your convenience or meet us at the Dawes County Courthouse from 9 a.m. to noon.

Family Nature Night

The Child Development Center at 1140 Chapin St. in Chadron will host a Family Nature Night April 18 from 4-6 p.m. in cooperation with the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and the Nebraska Game and Parks. The event is open to the public and will be a night of fun, hands-on activities focused on nature in Nebraska. 1057th Open House

The Nebraska National Guard 1057th Military Police Company will have an open house April 21 from 1-3 p.m. at the Armory on the Chadron State College Campus. Military vehicles and weapons will be on display, and there will be shooting and obstacle stations.

Free showing of "Chasing Ice"

Join us for a free viewing of the award winning documentary "Chasing Ice" from National Geographic. The documentary follows photographer James Balog's attempts to capture the changes in Arctic glaciers. The footage he captured is amazing and time lapse photography is stunning. The film is 1 hour and 15 minutes and will be followed by a short discussion.

There will be two opportunities to watch the film: April 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the UCC Church, 370 Chadron Ave. Sponsored by Chadron chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby and April 24 at 5 p.m. at the CSC Student Center. Sponsored by CSC Natural Sciences Club.

Goodwill accepting donations

Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska will have a donation drive in Chadron beginning April 18 after noon, and continuing daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 8. People living in and around Chadron can drop off donations at the Maverik Station at 1211 West Highway 20.

Most items will be accepted, though due to limited storage space, furniture, televisions and large appliances will not be taken. Tax donation receipts will be available at the trailer.

Library celebrates Insight launch

The Chadron Public Library will celebrate the upcoming Insight Mission to Mars Launch April 24 at 4 p.m. with Dr. Mike Leite, a geosciences professor at Chadron State College. Leite will discuss the upcoming mission and how student research is contributing to NASA planetary science and exploration. There will be hands-on activities. All ages are welcome, but space is limited. The library is part of the NASA @ My Library initiative.
