Chadron State College students enrolled in Event Planning and Leadership (CA 239) are hosting the third annual Oxfam Hunger Banquet Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The event is open by invitation only or by contacting Dr. Shaunda French-Collins at 308-432-6302.
The event will bring approximately 100 CSC students, faculty, staff and community members together to bring awareness to world hunger and food insecurity.
Attendees will be divided to represent three income classes: high, middle and low. Each class will be provided an accurate meal representing its income level on a global basis.
Half of the audience members, approximately 50 people, will represent low class and will be served rice. Thirty others will receive a meal of rice and beans representing middle class, and the remaining 20 attendees representing high class will dine on a three course meal.
Attendees will receive a ticket upon arrival informing them of the person they will represent throughout the event. The ticket details will include income class, family and occupation information.
In addition to the meal, audience members should expect to discuss world hunger, listen to a community member address local hunger assistance and donate to local food pantries by bringing at least two canned goods to the event.
