Someone who rightfully can be called “a legacy athlete,” Harley Rhoades of Douglas, Wyo., has signed a letter of intent to participate in track and field at Chadron State College beginning a year from now.
Rhoades is a senior at Douglas High, where he played football is a middle distance runner, but will concentrate on track at CSC. He was born in Chadron, when his parents, Jay and Angela, were the head football and volleyball coaches at Chadron High. They now have those positions at Douglas.
Both parents were standouts in those sports at Chadron State and were inducted into the CSC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Only one other couple, John and Lisa Flynn of Sutherland, are in the Hall of Fame.
Harley was a member of Douglas’ Class 3A state champion 4x400 relay team last spring and has a best of 2:00.85 in the 800 meters.
Also signing with the Eagles this fall is Sydney Settles, a senior distance runner at North Star High in Lincoln. She qualified for the state meet in the 3200 last spring and also plans to run cross country at CSC.
